THE FRENCH BULLDOG, A UNIQUE BREED

Let’s meet the French Bulldog, a small dog breed that was established at the end of the nineteenth century. This animal has some peculiar characteristics that make it a unique dog, let’s see why.

French Bulldog Character

The French bulldog have a loyal, protective and courageous character. They are also cheerful, playful and comical dogs. They get along well with people and are generally tolerant and good with children.

The French bulldog are peaceful dogs and they love to spend long hours lying down or resting, but some specimens (especially males) can be possessive and have territorial tendencies despite their small size, which could be taken regularly with other male dogs.

The French bulldog is an intelligent dog but it can also be a bit stubborn, remaining from its origins as a prey dog, so it is good to educate them with attention and some dedication. Many of them are also quite independent and it is not uncommon to see these types of Frenchies circling alone in the park as “their stuff” without paying much attention to other dogs.

But what we like most about this breed is that the French bulldogs, because of their way of being, really spread good energy around them. They are funny dogs and really “enjoy”, they want to have fun, curious and be happy in their own way.

Brief History of the French Bulldog

Related to the English bulldog, it seems that this dog descends from mixtures between Toy Bulldogs coming from England and small French dogs. So in origin we could say that it is not so French, but Franco-British. England provided the base breed, the English Bulldog, and France the hallmark of a new variety, the Frenchies.

To know the history of the French bulldog we must go back a bit in time, until the nineteenth century. With the arrival of the Industrial Revolution in England, many English thread and cloth artisans were replaced by machines, and emigrated to Northern France in search of work. It was there that the successive crossings that gave rise to the race occurred, work carried out by these workers and craftsmen of the popular class.
